David's Hello & Massu's Goodbye

Update
Nicolas Massu has won his farewell match 6-4, 6-2. And David almost hit the Chilean president with a ball (accidentally). But a good time was had by all.
More tomorrow, and also David's home game in Córdoba.

Today, David's Farewell Tour begins at the Movistar Arena in Santiago de Chile with Nicolas Massu's farewell match. The two of them are the "support act" for Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic so to speak, who will play afterwards. I think I read somewhere that there's also going to be a bit of doubles (like there will be on Saturday in Buenos Aires).

How seriously the two of them are going to take this match, and how well David will be able to play, over seven months after his last regular match and with his dodgy shoulder - we'll see.

But for that we'll need a stream...
Edit: Looks like there's an official stream on Movistar TV (starts 8.45pm local). Here's hoping it doesn't only work in Chile.
Edit II - It works. Not only in Chile.

If you find a stream for the match please post it in the comments. Thanks.

In the meantime:
Earlier today, David, Nicolas Massu, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and junior player Christian Garin met Chilean president Sebastian Piñera. Here's a look:

  5. Cant make out who the 4 people warming up are from the 2 commentators speaking. When is it going to start exactly in how long do u know?

  6. Should be 8-45pm local as that's when the official stream starts. But it might get later. It usually does.

  7. Is the stream working for other people? I had about 5-10 minutes of adverts (I could just about make out Massu/Nalbandian at bottom of screen) and now there's nothing. Apart from a redirect.

  8. The official stream works now.

  9. Sorry, I should have said it was the Roja Directa stream I was trying. I couldn't find a stream from the Movistar page.
I've started again with RD and now they're talking about Massu. I'm more hopeful that this might turn into the match. Is this what other people are seeing?

  11. Oh good, thanks. The other one seems to be working now (stop talking, start playing!) but this is a much better picture. As long as I have it full screen, the main screen has a massive title strip covering most of it, I haven't worked out how to get rid of it. But full screen works.

  12. To get rid of the title strip you have to log on to FB and like them, apparently.

    1. Or just go full screen. :)

    2. Heh!
I'd 'like' if it was just this match, but I don't think I want to like Movistar that much!

Eeek! Is that Fernando Gonzalez's girlfriend, or his sister?! She looks just like him!

  13. I was looking for the little x to get rid of the strip. Ah, but full screen works. Thanks. Good picture.

  14. I'm trying to work out what he's doing on his serve - assuming he's modified it for this.

It must feel weird to him, knowing that these exhos aren't a prelude to serious business next season, that he'll never play a match that really "matters" again.

  15. I guess that thought will probably just hit him on Saturday. When it's really the last match.
But his serve is a mess... Hope the shoulder doesn't hurt too much.

  16. I can't believe he'll be trying too hard to win this one, he'll want to pace himself for a busy few days and it's Massu's day really.

  17. The serves he's missing are going long - which might mean he's not really reaching up for it. But I thought he probably would have practised some sort of modification to take a bit of strain off his shoulder... but still get the ball in.

  18. Just like with that smash. Reaching up is obviously the problem. But I think it must be pretty difficult to change a serve when you've had it for so long.

  19. True it is Massu's day and for me its just nice to see him, see him play. Yeh lol the serve isnt great and the game'stempo seems a bit slow, and is it me or is it quite windy out there?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Yeh hes just taking the pace off the serve to manage it

    ReplyDelete
  21. I'd say he just can't bring his arm and shoulder up high enough.
In any case - we're indoors here.
