David & Rafa in Córdoba

(Olé)

(EFE)
Update
It was a "unique feeling" for David and a very nice match for everyone who got to watch it. And in the end, David won 6-4, 7-6(6). But what really mattered is that everybody involved had a good time. Including little Sossie, there on David's arm during the trophy ceremony (yes, they had one).
More tomorrow...

Edit: Here's a photo from that ceremony.
Post etc coming tonight (European time).

(Rafael Nadal/FB)

And David and Rafa also in Unquillo, to which somewhere between another press conference and another tennis clinic (not open to the public this time) they paid a visit, as the photo above shows.
But the main part of the action today will of course happen just a little further south, in the city of Córdoba, at the Orfeo Superdomo. Which will look very different from the way it does in the photo below.

(La Voz)
The good news is - we have an official stream.
This time in the form of the free streaming site by TV Publica, the channel that broadcasts the event in Argentina.
So, what to expect from this exhibition match? I guess last night we got an idea of how unevenly matched a retiring David and the world #1 will probably be. But I'm sure this match will still be a lot of fun, for David and Rafa, as well as for David's home crowd.

To pass the time, a few impressions from the inevitable press conference today. David talks about how great it is to have Rafa in Argentina and to play these last two matches with him, Rafa talks about his long absence from the Tour and his comeback, and about how much he loves tennis, and then David gets asked again about the current Davis Cup dispute but once more he refuses to get entangled in it. - Some things have already changed.

  1. No way around at least one press conference a day - also for Nole in Buenos Aires. About David: "When I began my career David was very good to me. He always helped me. He's a great guy." (See pic.)

    1. Yep, I'm so happy! I was disappointed I won't get to watch from the start but God works in a mysterious way :D

  4. Cute kid with banner. Even I can read that much Spanish. ;)

  5. Isn't the announcer wearing David's pink jacket that was so popular on here the other day?! :0

    ReplyDelete
  6. And now we know what happened with the horrible jacket...

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Maybe pink/peach jackets are fashionable in Argentina?

      Delete
    2. Haha, did we type our 'horrible jacket' comments at the same time?

      Delete
    3. Yep. Obviously not fashionable as in - he gave it away quickly...

    4. Sossie!!!!!!!!
      Oh, she's gorgeous!

  7. That should have been a new comment, here. not another jacket reply.

  8. Does the stream keep freezing for other people too or is it just me?

    2. I did, it seems better now. Hopefully it will stay so

  9. I hope there'll be a picture of Sossie from today. I appreciate that David wants to keep his family life private - and good for him - but I 'd like to see what she looks like occasionally as she grows.

  10. Mine's all right so far, Camilia. Oh, you've got your name back!

  11. She'll be able to say she saw her Daddy play. :)

  12. Momma, Victoria and Sossie. I guess the gang's all here. Play ball.

  13. Yeh so sweet, gunna be an emotional night

  14. An indecent proposal for David now... lol

    1. Is that what it was?! Lol!

I hope Victoria covered Sossie's ears!

    2. Is it what he was smiling about? What was it? No Spanish here :p

      Delete
    3. Some guy asked David to marry him. It wasn't any more indecent that just that. lol

  15. He's looking a lot better than last night. And the serve doesn't even look painful like it did then. I was wincing with every serve in last night's match.
The stream's not as good today though - that was exceptional. Maybe I'm not seeing him quite as clearly.

  16. Any1 noticing hes hitting the ball much cleaner than yesterday? And serve a notch better too

    ReplyDelete
  17. He looks much better than last night, also on this stream. These two really know each other well and also their game. It's a nice match they're playing for us. And do you think Rafa would hit David off the court in his hometown?

    1. Nah! Rafa is such a sweet kid, and cute of course!

  18. Loool julia thanks for the spanish translations :p loool

  19. Rafa was never going to be mean to David tonight. But David striking the ball better, including on the serve, is what we're seeing. :)

    ReplyDelete
  20. Yeah, he no longer looks like he's in constant pain.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Oi! Rafa! I said you weren't going to be mean to David tonight!

    1. It's all part of their plan to either stage an amazing comeback for David or treat the crowd to three sets. Or a super-tiebreak, or something.

      Delete
    2. lol I like the idea of staging an amazing comeback ;)

      Delete
    3. I was wondering if they are due to play a normal 3rd set or a tie-break. If necessary, which is looking likely. An amazing comeback for David would be fine for me though.

The crowd are loving it. This is such a treat for them, especially the ones who are local and have David as their local hero.

  22. Hiya everyone!!
Commenting from Montreal, Canada, my new home city :)
    Long time no speak!
Official stream doesn't work for me though :(((
If you guys have an alternative link...

    ReplyDelete
  23. Hey Mira. :) Hmm, that sucks. Not Montreal of course but that the stream doesn't work for you. I've seen no other streams, just this one. Doesn't do anything?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Damn. A service winner and an ace in the same game. Different shoulder tonight.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It did occur to me that he might be on painkillers for this. And deal with the consequences later. :(
Or, he is using that spare shoulder he was saving for the occasion.

      Delete
    2. And different adrenaline levels. He was really nervous before the match, understandably so.

      Delete
    3. You mean the spare shoulder he keeps in the shed? ;)

      Delete
    4. I go with the adrenaline theory :p

      Delete
    5. That's the one. It needed dusting off first.

  25. Hi Mira. I hope you can get the stream working.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Thank you Julia and Istabraq.
Stream still won't work, one image and freezing (no internet issue though)
Hopefully it'll uploaded on YouTube soon...
Following your comments thank you the match sounds entertaining!! ;)

    1. Yes, both hitting balls that were going out. :)

      Delete
  28. umm Julia I think your comeback staging theory might have some merit after all :p

    ReplyDelete
  29. David just missed that slice to make it less obvious.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I mean, I can't imagine they'll play a third set. has got to be super tiebreak.

    ReplyDelete
  31. David will win. :)
    A super tie-break would make that better/more likely/more plausible.

    ReplyDelete
  32. And with the "308" logo the court looks like it's the Copa Argentina. Had to get that off my chest.
In case anyone's wondering - I'm doing what I never did when reporting David's matches for VD. I'm drinking wine... :)

    1. lol It's chocolate for me since I don't drink :p

    4. I'm taking the day off tomorrow, Even if it's just to get some sleep...

      Delete
    5. I don't drink at all cuz of religious reasons. I'm eating chocolate and telling myself I won't cry, and that there's still Saturday :p

    6. I was rubbish at work this afternoon. Coffee saw me through the morning. I was so wired after watching last night's match I only got to sleep a couple of hours before getting up time.
I went to sleep when I got home tonight and set my alarm for the match. Feel pretty good now. :)

      Delete
    7. Nope, I'm pretty much done....

    8. and I'm already crying! I ate chocolate and screwed up my diet for nothing!

    9. Hah! Amazing comeback victory!

      Delete
    10. One chocolate-fest for a special occasion won't screw up your diet. :)

  40. It's a sad day. I can't believe he is retiring. He still plays amazing! what a class player. The most beautiful tennis. amazing ball striking. Unique technique! Best talent my eyes have seen. I will miss him for ever. Thanks David for making me feel tennis like none. Enjoy your family and new life.

It is 3:12 am in England, staying to watch this late. I couldn't do less!
