Acapulco R1 - David vs Aljaz Bedene

(Terra/Getty Images; montage by VD)

Update (27/02)
I just saw the result... I'm going to try and find out what happened.

This is the second time that David plays against Aljaz Bedene (currently #71). The first took place last year at Belgrade and back then David had little difficulty, beating the Slovenian 6-4, 6-3.

For the record, David has lost eight positions this week and he's now ranked #86. At Acapulco he doesn't have any points to defend but that'll change at Indian Wells.

  6. What a horrific match, 4-0 in the 3rd, 10 games in a row for bedene, nalby cant serve anymore, doublefaulting every point almost, I really hope he is not injured, but I think he is, he is not winning a single point, cant explain this otherwise, really hope he is allright... :(

  7. He finally won a game in the 3rd.

Is it simply because he feels sleepy to play so late at night, so he is doing worse and worse in the match? Hopefully it is not yet another injury...

  9. After disapearing from the match (6-4 to 6-4 6-0 4-0) David could win 2 game to force a 4-2 in the third set...hoping he can be again in the match on time !!

  10. Normally he likes to play in the night because he doesnt like the sun. The first set was ok, with the usual david stuff: breaking, broken back, but eventually he won the first set like I expected of this match, but then suddenly a total change

4-3 now, lets hope he has woken up finally

  12. He had 2 BP's to make 4-4, but failed...

  14. I was only expecting him to win 1 match in this tournament, but too bad he couldn't.

But I guess we all get used to the consistently inconsistent & unpredictable David at this stage of his career, sigh...

Hope he can simply enjoy his final years on the tour, injury-free!
