Davis Cup Team Nominations Day

Today, ten days before the start of the Davis Cup semifinal, the captains have to officially announce their teams. Even if, as Martin Jaite explained in the previous interview, the line-up can still be changed up until an hour before the draw ceremony, next week on Thursday.
Jaite also said that he'd announce his team already on Monday. Yesterday, however, there was no sign of the press conference that is the usual setting for announcements of this sort.

Update
But now it's official, the four players Martin Jaite has nominated for the semifinal tie are:
Juan Martin Del Potro, Juan Monaco, Carlos Berlocq and Eduardo Schwank (source).

Jaroslav Navratil, the Czech Republic's captain, has nominated his team as well:
Tomas Berdych, Radek Stepanek, Lukas Rosol and Ivo Minar (source).

So Carlos Berlocq will be making his Davis Cup debut in the semifinal. And he's an obvious choice for replacing David in the doubles, as Edu and Charly have played doubles before and even won a doubles title together (Stuttgart 2010).
That it's possible to change the line-up up until one hour before the draw ceremony is now leading to speculations about David, perhaps still finding a way of recovering in time for the tie and joining the team at the very last minute. The same way he did in Stockholm, 2010.
Though for my part, I don't really think that this would be a good idea.
Edit: Apparently, Jaite and David met yesterday and after that meeting Jaite decided that David wouldn't be part of the team (source).

From David, there are no real news at the moment, only that there will be more tests during this week and that he's continuing with the recovery process (source).
But one can imagine what he must be feeling like, right now...

Update II
On a different note, here's the latest addition to David's schedule. He'll once more start the European indoor swing at Stockholm (October 15-21).

  1. Sorry but I'm glad he's out. it's the best for him because, let's face it, Monaco won't beat Berdych, and with some luck we'll be 2-2 (I'm not sure Del Potro could beat Berdych either). Then Who's is going to play against Raddek? Pico? No way! No against him on Davis (he didn't beat him in the circuit, less in this tournament) Guess who will be the one going out there to fight for the finals? Yes, our beloved David, yes the idiot who ever put the Davis before everything, even his health... So, better be this way.(I love David, so the "idiot" was no offensive, obviously, just a way of saying) Guillermina

  2. That's a sensible decision and what most of us expected or hoped for!

  3. Yeah, it's a good decision by Jaite. Though it must be a tough one for David to stomach (no pun intended). I just really hope that he isn't planning on somehow making another surprise appearance like with his last-minute trip to Stockholm...
I think Delpo, Pico, Edu and Charly can pull this off. And of course I'll be covering the tie here on VD, even if David will only be present in the stands.

  4. I agree, they have a good chance of pulling it off. I know how hard it is for David but it's for the greater good, his and the team's. This time he'll only make the trip to Buenos Aires and we can count on him making that trip but hopefully only to support the team ;)

    1. And this time, he might not have to drive from Unquillo to Buenos Aires because his flight got cancelled, like last year with the QF tie... :)

  5. I am actually relieved David is out, because in his condition he will probably put his health and even the entire tie in Danger, it's a risky business. He will do a better job if he supports his teammates or even practice with them if he can. I really hope these guys can pull this one off, and in my opinion, never rule out Monaco on clay, not even against Berdych.

  6. I guess most if not all of us here are relieved. Having seen what happened on previous occasions when David played DC despite being injured. I mean, in Stockholm he got away with it, more or less (though I believe that this was where his hamstring problems started). But when I think of the R1 tie vs Romania last year, or the QF vs Sweden 2008...

  7. Yes, I'm also relieved but still you never know ;-). But I hope that Jaite has a good influence on David (if something like that is possible :-)) because the other guys can really win that tie and it would be terrible when David plays, gets even more injured, they win the tie and are in the final and David can't play because the injury is worsened. So better if he doesn't play also for the future (rest of season/possible DC final or one season more).

  9. I remember it. And I remember the hospital and the double surgery afterwards. Just like I remember the match against Söderling in the QF 2008, which also ended in tears. And that he ruined his hip during that tie... David is obsessed with DC, there's no other way of putting it. And over the years, he has paid a heavy price for his obsession.

    1. Yeh omg I remember that soderling one. Its true he has a big obsession of dc but that's what he's always had although I would want more of that on tour. I forgot who it was against but he travelled on the last day to play the final tie crazyy but shows how dedicated he is to dc

    2. That was the first-round tie in Stockholm 2010 that I was referring to. ;)

  10. why not leo mayer instead of Carlos Berlocq?? mayer is in good form and he's a good clay court player too

  11. I believe this team nominated by Jaite can beat the Czechs in semifinal. They'll play at home, crowd support and of course David's support as the fighting spirit of Argentine team even if he'll stay courtside, it's important for everyone to know that David will be there to support them, that's also a part of his dedication for DC.
I'm relieved that David won't play, for the sake of his body.
Let's hope he'll have a chance to play in the final! DelPo can win his 2 singles match, even Pico, you really never know when it comes to DC, I'm optimistic :)

  12. I've been feeling in pessimistic mood about this SF, so it's nice to read so many positive comments - makes me feel a bit more hopeful.

  14. So Berdych won over Fed last night. He is definitely THE biggest threat from Czech team but I still believe our Argies can win this tie!
    Vamos!
