Queen's Club R1 - David's Match Postponed to Tuesday

Weather Update
5.05pm local: It's official, all play is cancelled for the day. So David will play his first-round match tomorrow - if the weather allows it...

(Reuters)
3.30pm local: It's still raining in London, no play before 5pm local...

2.05pm local: No play before 3.30pm local. The last matches on Centre Court and Court 1 have already been cancelled.

1.12pm local: The latest news - no play before 2pm local. If play can start at 2pm remains to be seen...

12.20pm local: Rain Delay. David's match won't start as scheduled. Right now, not even the tournament website dares to come up with an estimated starting time...

Note: I've removed the pre-match post now. I'll put it up again, tomorrow...

  2. We can basically just hope that the forecast for the week won't be right. It's all just rain, rain and more rain...

In the end, it's probably going to be chaos again, with lots of court changes and David's match/es getting moved to outside courts again - like last year. Though looking at the forecast, the question really is how much tennis there will be at all...
Well, still hoping for the best. Also for Wednesday. :)

  8. I could post a new screencap, live from the QC channel on the Eurosport Player but it would look exactly like the one that's already in the post...

  10. Hey, some people are materialising in the stands - and without umbrellas! Could it be that we still get to see David play?

  11. Huhu, that would be very nice!

  12. Yeah... My only problem is that I'll have to leave at 7pm London time...

  13. There's still a little bit of rain as I'm hearing now from Istabraq, who's at the Queen's Club.

  14. Hmm, not good that you have to leave and also not good with still raining a bit.

  15. Yeah, and just a little bit of rain is enough to make play impossible.
I didn't really expect that my other plans might get in the way... But well, anything is possible with the English weather.

  16. Most people have disappeared from the stands again...

  21. I'm hearing that play is cancelled for the day. Still has to be officially confirmed.

  22. So let's see what weather is doing tomorrow in England...

  23. The forecast says it's going to rain...

  24. Yeah, I looked at it and it looks like rain for the whole week...
Do we know what can happen, if rain doesn't stop? Tournament cancelled? Or to be hold at a different venue?

  25. I have no idea...
Though on the site I'm using it's looking better now for Wednesday and the days after that. But in any case - it's going to be chaos. And I don't think they'll schedule David to play on Centre Court again. (At least not for this match or the next.)

  26. And the organisers prove me wrong - but they've scheduled David's match as the fourth (!) on Centre Court. And what are the chances of that to happen...

    ReplyDelete
  27. So we have to cross fingers and hope that it somehow works out...

  28. Well, I think it'll take nothing short of a weather miracle tomorrow for David to get a chance of playing his match.

  29. apparently tomorrow no rain :)

  30. aaaaah how come... from 1st match today to 4th match tomorrow, it's not good for his chances to actually get to play :/
no rain for the first part of the afternoon or the whole day? fingers crossed!!! :)

  31. Hi Julia
The rain here in London has been dreadful, dark, damp, gloomy. It's barely stopped all day. I'm glad play was cancelled, I'm sure the grass would have been slippery and would have needed some hours without rain to dry out properly and be playable. We don't want players slipping and hurting themselves. We're delighted David has chosen to play at Queens and I'm looking forward to seeing him play on TV [Eurosport and BBC2] and hope he does really well. Vamos David!

  32. I think the reason they changed the order of the Centre Court matches for tomorrow is that the three now scheduled before David's all have one player who has a doubles match to play later. So if David had still been in the doubles, he might have still been scheduled first.

They are using four outside courts tomorrow instead of the usual two. I didn't even know there was a Court 11! It must be one that's usually a practice court. Fingers crossed that David doesn't get moved to an outside court tomorrow - we need the first three matches to go quickly.

Btw, I had a small consolation for hanging around in the damp and gloom (not all day - I didn't bother going until the afternoon). I did actually see David, on his way out of the club. :)
