Queen's Club Draw

Update (10/06)
The news first came via Fue Buena last night and by now it's official: Leonardo Mayer has pulled out of the tournament for personal reasons. Therefore David and Leo Mayer can't meet in the second round and David won't play doubles, after all.

The good news: David's singles match will be the first match on Centre Court tomorrow.
The not so good news: The weather forecast says it's going to rain in London - all day...

The European clay-court swing lies behind us, time to move on to the tournaments on grass. For the third time, after 2008 and last year, David has chosen the AEGON Championships, more widely known by the name of the venue, the Queen's Club, as his first event on grass.
In the hope of getting a couple matches under his belt, ahead of Wimbledon.
So here's what is going to await David at the Queen's Club this year. He has been drawn into the top half and there into bottom quarter:

[4] Gilles Simon (FRA) vs BYE
Simone Bolelli (ITA) vs Ernests Gulbis (LAT)
Adrian Ungur (ROU) vs Xavier Malisse (BEL)
Martin Klizan (SVK) vs [13] Alex Bogomolov Jr. (RUS)

[10] David Nalbandian (ARG) vs Vasek Pospisil (CAN)
Malek Jaziri (TUN) vs [Q] Ruben Bemelmans (BEL)
Edouard Roger-Vasselin (FRA) vs QUALIFIER
BYE vs [7] Andy Roddick (USA)

The complete draw you can view here.

  1. Pospisil. And then maybe dubs partner Leo! Hewitt's in the other half.

    I don't think they'll put David v Pospisil on Centre Court. :(

  3. According to Fue Buena, Leo Mayer has withdrawn for personal reasons.
I'll wait with updating the post until it's official. Also because I don't know what's going to happen with the doubles, in case he really doesn't play.

  6. I saw a tweet from a journo mentioning that David will be scheduled on Centre court, fingers crossed :)
Pospisil, another youngster, let's hope David won't need many games to get to know him :D

  10. Thanks, Joyce. :)

It doesn't look likely that David will get on at all tomorrow, even though he's up first. According to the weather forecast there will be heavy rain all day, with a slight improvement to light rain by evening, but no real letup. Nothing to give any hope the covers will come off the courts at all.

Really frustrating - last year his doubles was due last on Centre Court on the Monday, but rain delays meant they didn't get that far. Being on first should give him a much better chance... in anything but a solid day of rain. :(

If it wasn't for David I probably would give up and save wasting a day off work, but I have to be there, just in case. ;) It's been raining already this evening, so maybe it will stop earlier than they think.

Anti-rain dance needed from all the VamosDaviders!

  12. The problem is, that when Davids game is scheduled, there is the finish of the French Open Final on Eurosport ... so it can rain in London till the French Open has finished ;-)
