David has been drawn into the top half and there into the bottom, that is to say Roger Federer's quarter, the upper half of which looks like this:
[3] Roger Federer (SUI) vs Tobias Kamke (GER)
Adrian Ungur (ROU) vs David Nalbandian (ARG)
Frank Dancevic (CAN) vs Martin Klizan (SVK)
Nicolas Mahut (FRA) vs [26] Andy Roddick (USA)
[23] Radek Stepanek (CZE) vs [Q] David Goffin (BEL)
[W] Arnaud Clement (FRA) vs Alex Bogomolov Jr. (RUS)
Karol Beck (SVK) vs Lukasz Kubot (POL)
[Q] Florent Serra (FRA) vs [15] Feliciano Lopez (ESP)
A look at the complete draw you can take here.
Against his first-round opponent Adrian Ungur (currently #91), David has played before - on clay and best-of-five in what was probably his most dramatic match of the last season, during last year's Davis Cup first-round tie against Romania. Back then, an injured David beat Ungur in four sets.
In the second round, however, Roger Federer awaits...
Update
David has won the last match of the Masters Guinot Mary Cohr exhibition. In the "battle of the captains", he beat Julien Benneteau 6-2, 6-2.

Fingers crossed for David!
ReplyDeleteKeeping everything crossed!!!
ReplyDeleteYep. :)
ReplyDeleteLet's see if their "live coverage" of the draw works, this time...
I hope the "live draw" on their FB page works for you guys.
ReplyDeleteI can read "something went wrong" and tried to refresh the page but still... :(
Same here, it doesn't work for me...
ReplyDeleteYeah, had the same here. Refreshed a couple of times and then it went back to the draw graphics.
ReplyDeleteThe ceremony hasn't started yet, by the way. Still a couple of minutes.
They're starting the women's draw now.
ReplyDeleteI'm still not sure how and if this is going to work...
Looks like it doesn't. Quelle surprise...
ReplyDeleteDavid gets Ungur in R1.
ReplyDeleteA new edition of last year's DC drama match, I might add.
Deleteokay, thanks Julia!
Deletecan't wait to see his full quarter.
same here :( it would've been too good to be true lol
ReplyDeletethousands and thousands of people connected to the same facebook page, tough times for their app haha.
at least, the women's draw is already up on the FB page, so I hope it'll be as fast for the men :)
Ungur in the first round :)
ReplyDeleteOh no.....
ReplyDeleteFederer in the second.
FFS when i saw that on twitter i was fuming, ffssss
ReplyDeleteBloody hell.
ReplyDeleteNooo please not...
ReplyDeleteNoooooooooo :( :(
ReplyDeletesuch a bad luck for David :(
(other tennis fans are delighted already...)
nooooooo :(
Oh man :( fuck this shit.....
ReplyDeleteI just saw the news about Federer in R2. :( :( :(
ReplyDeleteSo unlucky.
I'm going to Roland Garros Thursday to Saturday next week. That's one day of 2nd rounds and both days of 3rd rounds. Looks like I might miss David. :(
ReplyDeletelet's hope David/Ungur won't be a remake of their DC match.
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed that David will win his match AND remain as fit as possible.
And then... Federer.. at least they'll play on a televised court and we know David likes to play against the best players no matter what is the outcome :)
Yeah Im actually looking foreward to it. If Davids fresh, he will be playing some brilliant tennis hopefully
ReplyDeleteYes, good point Mira, it will be on tv. :)
ReplyDeleteI leave for Paris on Wednesday evening, so I'll have to record it. Second rounds are played Wednesday and Thursday (if no hold-ups), so if that half plays second I might get David's 2nd round - if it was on the right show court.
But whenever I've been before, Rafa's half plays second, so I think I will miss David by a day - unless of course he can beat Mr F.
Very bad draw - it would be great if he could play Roddick in R2 and he will win easily. I actually hoped Nalby could win 2 matches...
ReplyDeleteBut I hope he would win just 1 match, and give a challenge to Federer. It would be a HUGE HUGE upset if he could beat Federer (who is unbeaten before QFs in slams for like 7-8 years?).
If he loses in R2, then he needs to even win more matches (e.g., QF) in the grass-court warm-up tournament, or he will also be unseeded for Wimbledon, big sigh!!!
Yes, being unseeded has not been kind to him lately, has it? :(
ReplyDelete:((((
ReplyDeleteI hope he can play a good match against federer but a win against him.... No i don't think so.... But its probbaly on tv and centre court, so im looking forward to that :)
ReplyDeleteIf it's on Philippe Chatrier on Thursday I will get photos. :)
ReplyDeleteBut I'm not counting on it.
Istabraq, hope you'll get to watch David on Thursday, fingers crossed for the schedule :)
ReplyDeletemeanwhile at the exho, good win for David over Benneteau, thank you for the pics Julia! very nice weather in Paris, I hope it'll remain the same for the next 2 weeks.
I'm wondering if David is the kind of player who looks at the draw or just wait for his match-after-match schedule..
Looks like the upper half of the draw will start again. But not confirmed yet.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, David got the smaller trophy because his team, the red one, lost in the end (Pico and Clement, who replaced Ferrero, lost their matches today).
I guess David will know that he's bound to meet Fed in R2. Not sure whether he looks beyond that round. I don't, really...
