Happy Birthday David & Happy New Year!

Those of you who've been around for a while know how it works - every year on January 1st Vamos David gets a new look. And this is it, Vamos David 2012. Hope you'll like it. :)

So - feliz cumpleaños, David. Welcome to 'Club 30'. And whether this is going to be the last season or not, here's hoping that it'll be a good one. With less injuries and more matches.

For David, the new season will begin at the Australian Open in two weeks' time (his full schedule for the first three months you can view on the Schedule Page). And as far as I've heard, his knee is okay. What I've also heard is that it looks like David will switch his clothes sponsor - from Yonex to Argentine company Topper (though he'll continue to use Yonex racquets). So it'll be a new year and a new look.

And another season with the King of Drama...

  2. Nice clip, and music to go with it. What song is in the clip, the one that is being played with the tennis highlights?

And thanks, Arizona. Yeah, I must admit that I'm quite happy with the way the new layout has turned out. :)

  4. Happy Birthday David, here's to a great new year for him and to all of us who support him. Thanks for all the hard work that you've done over the years Julia, time has really gone by fast. I'm a little disappointed that he's switching clothing sponsors for his final season, I always thought he was a great brand ambassador for Yonex, and it made him sort of unique but I think over time I will come to get used to it. Vamos to another drama filled year of fun!!

  5. Please no drama and injuries any more, it could be his last season. I like it that he begins the season with AO. He cán begin a Grand Slam in good form without praxis. You know how good he played against Ferrero. But, But! I have forgotten that he is lower ranked and can meet a difficult opponent in first or second round :(

    Happy New Year everyone!

    and Happy birthday David!

I love the clip, very uplifting to start the year, I knew you'd put that lob vs Hewitt! lol :)

noooo I loved him in Yonex outfit, but good for him to root for an Argentine company, good promotion for the brand.

  9. I can't believe he's 30 today. It's been 10years since I followed his career, I'm so proud to be one of his faithful supporters despite all the drama, the ups and downs, etc.

I wish you all the best Vamos Daviders, may David have great results this year so we can enjoy together! :)

  13. Happy New Year VamosDaviders. :)

And happy birthday to David, I can't believe he's 30.

Yes, I like the new look, very professional.

As for David's new look, I have no idea what to expect - I've never heard of Topper. Do any of the other Argentine players wear their gear? Lots of blue please, Topper - and easy on the yellow.

  14. I'm glad you all like VD's new look. David would probably like it too, after all it's based on the Argentine colours, of course. :)

The clip is something I made at the very last minute (after taking a break during the holidays). And I wasn't sure I could get it done in time but it all worked out in the end. :)

As for David's new look, well, I can't say I was a big fan of most of his Yonex outfits over the years... But you've all seen David wearing Topper before, at the DC press conferences and draws (here for example) as Topper is Argentina's DC team sponsor. We'll see what they'll come up with for the season.

Again, thanks to all of you. And let's hope 2012 is going to be good year for David. :)

  16. @Ashot : I saw his fan page "We Love You David" on Facebook has been updated yesterday for David's birthday. Not sure if he was the one who updated it though. I hope he's safe and okay.

  17. Thanks, Bibi. :)

I don't know about Noubar. Looks like he's updating his FB page but maybe Blogger is blocked for him. I hope not.

  18. I am quite worried he is planning to play 4 consecutive weeks (Davis Cup + 3 clay tournaments)...

Does he plan this schedule, under the assumption that he will win his Davis Cup matches easily, and he won't get deep into those clay tournaments?

I actually wish he would pull out of the 2 hard court tournaments, as he never did well there, but perhaps winning 2-3 matches won't be too bad.

I really hope he would get a nice draw in the Australian Open, and hope he still has 1 deep run in a Grand Slam. He has been doing soooooooooooo poorly in the slams for 5 years in a row...

  19. Having seen the new Yonex gear as worn by Hewitt and Machado... I'd say David is well out of it. ;)
