And Welcome to the Belgrade Arena

Fresh in from the AAT - a look at David's first practice at the Belgrade Arena, where he trained together with Juan Ignacio Chela (first it was Juan Monaco's and Juan Martin Del Potro's turn). Another clip you can watch here.
It was the first of the Argentine team's two practice sessions at the venue for the day with the second one due later, in the early evening.

So far, there's been photos (more on the Photo Page) and videos but no statements from anybody on the team. Something that will change tomorrow when it'll be time for the traditional round of press conferences.

Update
Second session - same scenario again. David trained with Chela, Del Potro with Monaco. This may be their reunion on the team but according to Danny Miche (who was courtside), there's no communication between David and Del Potro. He even went as far as tweeting that their relationship seems worse than the (infamous) one between Vilas and Clerc in the 80s. A very harsh comparison to make (see post). Let's hope it's not really that bad...
Edit (13/09): At least they're playing football-tennis together, though on different sides of the net.

  2. Well, if they're not going to do this as a team then it'll be even harder than it already is.

  3. I don't want to imagine what happens if Argentina loses and if Delpo and David one of them loses and the other wins
But I thought there was no problem any more between David and him, is there something new we don't know??

  4. No, there was never something like a real peace. The last chapter of the David/Delpo saga was Delpo saying that David didn't care when he was injured and only mentioned him in connection with DC - I remember that because it was after that update that I had to close the comments for the first time in VD history...

  5. It would be nice if they were best friends and all that but when either one of them steps on the court, they are not gonna be thinking about the other.

  6. They don't have to be best friends. But if they could work together as a team then that would create some positive energy that would help. And more than just a little bit.

  7. Idk,I think it doesnt make that much of a difference.Well see, anyways they said on CBS that Djokovic is gonna stay in New York tomorrow for some kind of press day since he won the title,so Im hoping he wont play on Friday.

  8. And I think they're making this more difficult for themselves than it would need to be.
Anyway, I guess after this final it's probably safe to say that Nole won't play on Friday. If he plays at all, after the back problems he obviously had.

  9. Ya,but I expect to see him on Sunday,if we will need a Sunday.

  10. Yep, Adrian, that's what I heard also about the press day on Tuesday. After the the match that just finished, I can't imagine Nole playing on Friday. He was treated by the trainer at the start of the 4th set for a muscle strain in his back. The pills he took at the timeout must have been really good because he played great in the 4th set. Perhaps 800 mg Ibuprofen. What a great match, though. Krystle, congrats to your fellow Queenslander, Sam Stosur. Glad she whupped Serena, the drama queen.

  11. I don't understand it, is it possible they r trsining on the same court without talking to each other, they said they were laughing together in queens.
like Julia said they dont have to be best friends, just manage to work things out 4 the team. if Novak doesnt play on friday, Argentina's chances are much higher for winning the tie.Because the key is to beat djokovic once, if he plays once, they have that in the bag. I know nalby and delpo can beat tipsy or troicky anytime they want.at least we r sure one of them is gna give his best of doing so.

  12. that is true.
anywayz this proves more and more how bad is the captain at managing this team, its not the easiest team but a very talented one.
Julia i think its absolutely crazy and stupid that david and delpo are not hitting together and titi is apparentely not doing anything.

  13. I think everyone will give their best. But this is DC. Not the same as running into each other at a tournament and exchanging a couple of jokes. (And IW 2009 didn't mean anything, either.)

If Nole plays only one match then there's a bigger chance of winning three of the remaining four. Though he might also play doubles.

  14. Okay, now my comment is below yours... lol I removed/rewrote it to add the part about Nole.
Anyway, I also think it's crazy and stupid. At the same time I guess you can hardly tell them to get along if they don't. That's a step they would have to take.

  15. can't argue withg that.
but delpo can rly give david a much more strong ground stroke for training and vice versa.
wut time is the press conf. today?i wanna see if they r sitting next to each other.

  16. All I know is that it should be today (always on Tuesday in DC) but I haven't heard anything more specific so far.
I'll write a post tonight, no time until then.

  17. wow, I didn't think the David/DelPo miscommunications problems was that serious.
Like Noubar, I can't imagine them not talking to each other while they are supposed to be united as a team. And we're not even expect them to be friends, just be as close as possible, like teammates are supposed to be, especially far away from home...
I hope Novak won't play on Friday, it might increase Argies' chances to win the other matchs...

  18. Nalbandian and del potro just entered Belgrade Arena together

    ReplyDelete
  19. i dont like del potro
his nose is upfront on david because he has a slam
he is not the half of david in terms of pure talent and career as well because right now he is one trick pony

  20. Those differences have other reasons.

  21. Thanks John. Yeah, it was great to see Sam Stosur win. Even though I don't normally watch her matches, or support her. Maybe that's why I was so surprised by how well she played against Serena. Her forehand was on fire. It was funny, I received an email from the tennis club that I play at, congratulating her, and mentioning the tournaments that she used to play growing up in Queensland, lol. How she played a couple of events at the club I play at now.

Ah I am revisiting the newsletter now, and it also says that Stosur is the first Queenslander to win the women's singles of the US Open.
