Play at the US Open Starts Today

On Saturday, it didn't look like this was going to be possible - but now it is. After New York City didn't get hit by Hurricane Irene as badly as expected and after the Billie Jean National Tennis Center survived it with only "minimal damage" - the US Open will kick off today.

But while today there's a revised schedule in place, play might start a little later than planned and there could still be some chaos on the site David doesn't need to concern himself with any of that. As his name is not on the schedule for today, he'll get to play his first match either tomorrow or on Wednesday.

Edit: I forgot to include the rankings update. David moves up one place this week to #76.

  1. Only federer plays today from the top 4, hopefully david gets to play tomorrow, i hope rafa gave him some good practice sessions. It was funny how ppl on twitter were surprised that rafa trained with david eventhough they could meet in as early as the 3rd round.
76 is better than 77 lol

  2. Maybe Rafa wanted to train with David again after the luck it brought him last year. ;)

  5. Tomorrow's schedule is out. David is on Court 17, 4th match (after one men's and two women's matches).

  6. Court 17 is the first court listed after Arthur Ashe, Louis Armstrong & Grandstand. Does that mean it's a "show" court?

  7. I see it listed on LiveScoreHunter so it must be a show court. It's scheduled too late in the day for me though. :(

  8. Thanks Istabraq, I'm probably not going to see David as I have a job interview on Wednesday so will need an early night tomorrow. If he starts before 9pm UK time I might check in here for a bit.

  10. That's pretty much the worst possible schedule for me. And I can't promise a recording from that court. But I'll see what I can do...

  11. And Noubar, yes, of course they did. Already forgot about this? ;)

  12. Oh no, poor schedules for us both. :( I will probably set the recording for when I leave (recording the match before) and hope that it continues without error. Bet365 is usually quite reliable with a recording not stopping, but you can never be sure with the other streams.

  13. Can't get it on Bet365 here. And I'm having unforeseen problems with the Eurosport Player. So it'll depend on LSH and what they have to offer, as not all of their streams are recordable...

  14. I remember every match from David he has played in last years but there are not many lol. Last year when Rafa and David played a practice match and then finished at 3:6 2:5 for Nadal I was worried how David can win the US Open after that lol, but this year after the AO we are not expacting him to win a Grand Slam any more. He finally has to pass the third round in a Grand Slam. Last time he was in last 16 it was in Roland Garros 2007 when he lost to Davydenko in one of the best matches during that tournament. Davydenko should win that tournament but he lost in semi against Fed in 3 instead winning in 3(!). In every set he was leading and so many chances to break Federer more, but it was at a time where most of Davydenko's defeats were gifts to his opponents especially against the top players. He was like Sharapova, always automatically offensive like a ball machine with super shots but made lots of UEs and didn't do tactical, tempo changes.

  15. Bet365 has live streams? probably the only betting site

  16. No, not in Germany and not in Austria. Eurosport has the TV and the internet rights.

  17. Court 17 is a nice court. I see what you mean, Adrian. I'm looking forward to the match with Reynolds. I think it will be a lot like the match with Nishikori. As I recall, Reynolds moves well but doesn't have any big weapons. It should be a good workout for David. Hope they cover Monfils and Dimitrov on ESPN2 tonight.

  18. No info about Nalbi how was his training, especially his service?

  19. @Julia, seriously i dont know how i forgot about that.
as for the coverage, I am lucky enough to have Eurosport 1 and 2 at home, its amazing what they are doing, they have 4 commentators (different from the world feed), and they put a different match on each channel, and each one of them changes courts from time to time, they aired court 17's Haas match and it just ended. Plus Aljazeera channel which broadcast through the worlds feed. so i promise to record the match tomorrow as much as they air it.

  20. That's nice of you, thanks. :)
But I've now resolved the problems I had with the Eurosport Player (they wanted me to subscribe for 3 months and not just one like I always do for the Slams - but now it works, one month) so everything should be fine. :)

  21. That's good. :) Now there's the good old replay you can always rely on.
