As David's doubles match ended up getting cancelled, he'll now have to play two matches tomorrow. First his singles comeback match, then later the doubles. And here's the bummer - there won't be a stream for either of those two courts...
Photos of David training and hanging out at the Queen's Club today now on the Photo Page, courtesy of Istabraq (thank you!).
In the evening, as the fifth and final match on Centre Court, David is scheduled to play his first match at the Queen's Club this year. But whether he'll get to play doubles alongside Andy Roddick against Delpo and Radek Stepanek today, that will depend on whether the previously scheduled singles matches get finished in time and that, as always, also depends on the weather.
After a first weather-induced delay, play is now about to start at the Queen's Club, around an hour later than originally planned.
Four matches now still to go before it'll be time for David's doubles debut.
- Let's hope it'll get to take place today.
Im watching Lopez and Tursunov and the games are going by pretty fast,Mahut should finish off the english WC quickly, the last two I have no idea how they will go but I think if there will be no delay theres a chance we might see David and Andy in action, also since its the last match it can maybe be rescheduled to some other court.
ReplyDeleteIf they're quicker on one of the other courts, yeah. There's 4-5 matches scheduled on each of them.
ReplyDeletebut in any case the match will take place late in the day, 10 pm under the lights (do they have any btw)??
ReplyDeleteNo, they don't have lights.
ReplyDeleteoww, then that changes everything Julia. I dont think they can make it.
ReplyDeleteplus its a stupid order of play anyways.
That's why it really didn't help that play started an hour late... And why I'm not all that optimistic.
ReplyDelete2nd match underway. looks like court central is the fastest.

ReplyDeletenalbyyy on grass
Hope Ljubicic and Sweeting play a quick 2-setter so David and Andy can get their match in tonight. I'm guessing they can play until about 9:45 or so in London.
ReplyDeletematch on court 2 seems to end quicker.
ReplyDeleteon a different matter, 140 people just died in Syria.every day passes, its getting more dangerous here. i need some nalby
ok Kunitsyn match is ending on court 2. I think david plays today.its 7pm in london.
ReplyDeletehorrible order of play for tuesday :(((((((((((((((
ReplyDeleteya Nalbandian 2nd match on court 2. then last match on court 1 for doubles
ReplyDeletesooooo the new OOP = no televised court for David :(
ReplyDeleteAnybody know why they didn't play the doubles? Seems like the Ljubicic match was over soon enough for at least several hours of play.
ReplyDeleteI got tweeted that play stops at 9 pm in london, they only had 1 hr left. and its silly to play a doubles match in 2 days
ReplyDelete7:30 Looby finished! I was sitting there waiting. All the singles were straight sets, too. They did start very late. Even once the covers were off... they repainted the lines, they put up advertising transfers... I wanted to scream at them.
ReplyDeleteI was afraid there would be too much competition for Centre Court tomorrow - but Court 2 is a bit insulting! - it's the smallest court. Even the other outside court has more seating.
I will be there well before he starts though, to make sure of a seat.
Sorry the rest of you won't get to see it on tv. :-(
At Wimbledon I've known play go on until 9:30, but there's a little more daylight closer to midsummer.
ReplyDeleteIt was quite overcast today, unfortunately, so although it seemed light enough to get started, it might not have been after a set or so.
All the names are big in the tournament so I dont think well be seeing Nalby on TV unless there would be a match up with Verdasco in the 3rd round.
ReplyDeleteYes, I was afraid that David wouldn't be put on Centre Court tomorrow because most of the big names are starting - on the Monday they are often a bit stuck for "name" players, so I had hoped he would start his singles on the first day, and be the perfect centrepiece on Centre Court. Silly scheduling. I know there have been complaints about the scheduling in the past couple of years, and so far it doesn't look as if they're getting it right this year.
ReplyDeleteCourt 2 is an odd choice, because it's the smallest one. Luckily for Joyce and me, it counts as an outside court so we can go on there (if we fight our way in quickly enough) whereas the much bigger Court 1 needs a separate ticket.
But neither is any use to those of you hoping to see David on tv. :( Sorry guys. Assuming I can elbow my way onto Court 2 I will try and give some sort of report, though I will be taking photographs which is more my thing, so it won't be very detailed. Also, since I've never seen a live "David" match before, I might just be too busy drooling with the excitement of it all. ;)
Anyway, I did have my first ever view of David in real life today, which was really something. I missed one and a half Centre Court matches to watch him practising, by the way.
As Julia mentioned, his brother Javier was with him, but I confess I didn't recognise the player he was hitting with. Quite young-looking, possibly American - an English speaker, anyway. Yes - David had to speak English today. ;)
Oh yes, I forgot to mention to Julia, that when I saw David on the balcony, at one point Delpo walked past him. He didn't stop to speak. I would have loved to get a photo of them together, and actually interacting.
aah, I envy you Istabraq! Have a very good time tomorrow and I hope you have a good seat for the match. Am looking forward to your pics :) Can you also film with your cam?
ReplyDeleteThanks. No my camera is stills only, but I did attempt to film a few seconds of his practice with my phone. It's probably no good though - I'll have a look.
ReplyDeletethanks for all the info Istabraq :) lucky you'll get to watch David "live"!
