Promo Clip

Update II (Tuesday 09/02)
No news at the moment. But here's another video to pass the time until David's comeback. The video might take a moment to load but it's worth the wait...
(Thanks Noubar for creating this somewhat unusual homage to David.)

Here's a nice little promo video of David, complete with heroic music, for the Abierto Mexicano Telcel tournament in Acapulco, which seems to have its own YouTube channel now...

Update
For those who've missed it and are wondering what the comments for this post are all about, Argentine TV channel Telefe aired tonight what turned out to be the repeat of a sketch featuring David, filmed back in 2003. (Thanks, Tamar.)

Here's the sketch, it's now on YouTube. (Thanks, Noubar.)

Hey, people, I wish someone of you can watch it: At 9 pm of Argentina (in 15 minutes), in "Telefe" channel they will stream a short comedy sketch with David. Is part of "Susana Gimenez"'s programm. I will try to find a stream, now...

Julia said...

Hi Tamar!
I think I've found a stream...

http://visionlarioja.es.tl/Canal-11-Telefe.htm

- Is that live?

Tama said...

http://www.telefevivo.com.ar/telefe-en-vivo-ch.html

I have just arrived to the cyber... Has David already been on the programm?

Julia said...

No, I don't think so.

Tamar said...

Great :)
Julia, do you understand what people is talking about in spanish, in the sketchs? I think that is quite difficult to understand for people for whom spanish is not their everyday language..

Julia said...

I found the stream before the show started and I've been watching it since then - no David so far.
But wow, they're definitely talking too fast for me...

Julia said...

Yeah Tamar, too fast for me... :)

Tamar said...

There is David :) I remember this sketch... They have stream it for the first time in 2003... as David said... ´They he is stil using the Prince raquet

Anna said...

Yes, this is 2003 (wrist injury)
Ahhh! "Baby" David!

Julia said...

Yeah, I mean you can see how young he looks in this one...

Istabraq said...

I saw it! But now I've lost it. 2003, eh? Doesn't he look... nice! ;-)

Tamar said...

Yeah, too young. It was before the DC semifinal against Spain, and after the US Open semifinal against Roddick. Julia, I only took one stream capture, of the beginning of the sketch... do you wanted?

Tamar said...

I mean, "screen capture"

Julia said...

He sure did. :)
Okay, so now Tamar and Anna, please tell us what this was all about. I got the part in the beginning, about her, not recognizing David and how he doesn't look like he's Argentine. But the rest... ?

Tamar, I took a lot of screencaps. Quality not great. But I don't know if I want to post all of them... ;)

Tamar said...

Istabraq: Yeah, he loked very nice ;) But.. have yu seen he part in wich he is on that kindf "bed"? Or you lost it before?

Julia said...

So what was that "bed part" all about?
I mean, apart from showing David in his undies?

Tamar said...

Julia and the rest ;)
David arrived to that massage place and said that he has a pain in the elbow. And Susana Gimenez says "ok, I will quit that pain, but you must take out all you clothes", and david answer "but... the pain is in the elbow... why must take out all my clothes?", Susana Gimenez said "I´m the specialized person here, please take out all your clothes, including your trouses!". Well.. then Susana Gimenez put all that things (in spanish "cremas"... creme in english?) on David´s body... at the end, Susana Gimenez ask David if he want the "treatment (tratamiento) with pain (cost 50 pesos = the argentinian money) or without pain (costs 3 pesos)". And David says that he wants the treatment without pain, obviously. But Susana Gimenez take out a hammer and David, surprised, says "But with that I will have pain..", and Susana Gimenez said, "ok, If you have pain and you shout, it will cost 50 pesos, so... don´t shout!". and that´s the end ;)

Julia said...

Ah, okay. Thanks, Tamar. :) (And for the tip about the show, of course!)
I got the part before they went over to the bed, where he talked about having a 'tennis elbow' and she was like, "tennis elbow? tennis hand, tennis foot..."
And I saw her taking out the hammer at the end but didn't really know what that was all about...

Anna said...

Well Tamar explained perfectly.

It was funny watching him with the Prince racquet. I bet Yonex wants to erase this tape jejeje. Once he said he couldn't use the argentine shirt (of our soccer team) because the brand.
He looked really younger!!!!
And I like more his hair color now

Tamar said...

Yeah, that, he says he has a "tennis elbow" and because of that he has pain... It was very funny all the sketch! I remember I saw it on 2003... Well, julia and people, I´m leaving the cyber (the place with computers... i don´t know how do you call it)... I´m going to my house, i´m hungry (still i haven´t had dinner).
We get in touch!
Bye to everybody :)

camilia said...

Noubar said...

Julia said...

Noubar, I've never seen a video of this sketch anywhere (on YouTube etc), so I don't think I can help you. We watched it on live TV last night and that was already a repeat. Not sure they'll show it again.
Maybe Camilia can help - where did you watch it?

Istabraq said...

Thanks, Tamar. Yes, I did see the part when he was on the bed! Not the bit with the hammer though, lol.
So now I know what it was about. I want to see it again!

camilia said...

Julia I think I saw it on youtube but that was long time ago, I'll try to check if it's still there. Still not sure but that's where I see most videos!

camilia said...

It's either no longer on youtube or I saw it somewhere else.Sorry for my bad memory :( Well, my memory isn't entirly that bad I remeber very well seeing him with not much clothes on ;)

Julia said...

Never mind, Camilia. :) Yeah, it's difficult to keep track of things like that. Though the sketch itself, or rather David's appearance in it, is memorable enough. ;)

Noubar said...

Great idea - how did you come across that website? Well, I'm not really sure David is a Swedish hero (and I hope he won't be, after Stockholm). But yeah, he's our hero. :)
I'll put the link up as an update. Thanks, Noubar!

David will be playing an exhibition with David Ferrer on Saturday:

http://www.davidnalbandian.com/principal.html

Basically translates:

David Nalbandian Will Play AN EXHIBITION PRE Copa Telmex.

The "Parque de los Niños" Buenos Aires will be the scene of the return of David after his abdominal injury. On Saturday 13 February, at 18 pm, Nalbandian will face David Ferrer in a Spanish exhibit to be staged in a specially created ...court in artificial beaches of the property.

With the collaboration of Government of Buenos Aires, officials of the Copa Telmex held a friendly duel between David and Ferrer, which acts as a prelude to Open to be played at the Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club and distributed 250 points for the ATP ranking.

"We always strive to bring the tournament to tennis and everyone. We think the Beach Children's Park is the ideal place to build something where kids can see about two monsters of tennis as Nalbandian and Ferrer, Jaite said Martin, director of the Copa Telmex.

Tim, yeah, thanks to Tamar, I was able to post an update about this before it was up on the offical site. :)
Noubar, thanks for the YouTube link. Looks like someone uploaded it after the repeat on TV.

Anna said...

Ok, I don't know if this is confirmed or not, but seems bad news: according to this articule http://www.elnuevoherald.com/deportes/tenis/story/650689.html David is NOT going to play Key Biscayne
The articule talks about the upcoming tournament and in some part says: "there will be 11 latinamerican players- with the absence of David Nalbandian"

So, seems David didn't use his RP and didn't ask for a WC because he's not going to play...?...
Please Tamar or someone, any information?
He will lost several points (he lost to Nadal the past year).
He has order to take it easy in terms of change of surfaces... maybe is related to that? (he's going to play on clay and eventually indoor hard/carpet for the DC tie).
Maybe if he feels ok, he can change his mind and use his RP... where the time limit to enter or use it?
I don't like David not playing this :( .
And now that I recall, I never heard about his plans post DC tie Will he skip the hard part to play directly on clay season and not change, even if the tournaments are MS 1000?

Tiffany said...

Anna,
Thank you for the update, but I must make a friendly correction to your information.
David lost to Rafa in IW, not in Key Biscayne. David went out in the opening round to Troicki.

Krystle Lee said...

That doesn't surprise me that he is not playing Indian Wells since he was never on the entry list. He is not down for Miami either which just came out today. I am really curious to hear from his camp, or officially though what his plans are. How long are you able to use a protected ranking for, in the first six months?

Julia said...

I'm not sure whether this means that David really isn't going to play Miami. To me, it looks like the article is a summary of the names that are currently on the entry list. David's name isn't on that list. But that doesn't mean it can't still be added by means of a wildcard. Same goes for IW.

I mean, where would be the sense in not playing those events? Apart from that, David has 90 points to defend from IW (10 from Miami).
And if there was confirmation that he won't play, the rest of the Argentine press would pick up on that news very quickly. But so far, I haven't seen anything, anywhere.
I don't know whether there's a time limit for using the protected ranking for an event but the way I understand it, the same rules apply as with a normal entry. The general limit for using it is nine months, starting with the first event or exho played, in this case San Juan. So it'll expire in mid-September.

I mean, yeah, it's all very confusing and uncertain at the moment. But as long as there's no confirmation from David or his camp I'll assume that he's going to play.

Krystle Lee said...

Well I would prefer to see that confirmation. I agree that the article is probably reporting based on the entry list though. I'm not really thinking about it from a perspective of what David would want to do, but I'm just not sure he would get wildcards. Yeah, protected rankings come with the entry lists, so I was just wondering when it would expire. As in, whether it is long enough to need to pick and choose events to enter with it or not.

Anna said...

Yes, I mixed the tournaments!!!!

I don't know what to think, because it could be a resume of the entry list BUT considering how cautious he must be with the change of surfaces I kinda understand the not playing. I don't like it but every time I think about it, it makes more sense. The other players (except the ones who take the clay part with BsAs, Chile, etc) are playing on hard since Australia, But David will play tournaments on clay and change for only two tournaments to, again, go to clay. So it's not illogical even if I'd love to see him play on hard

Julia said...

Changing back and forth between surfaces is of course not ideal. But I don't think David can afford to miss IW & Miami, nor that he would want to.
I mean, if the plan was to avoid playing on hard courts, he'd have to wait until mid-April and Monte Carlo (if he sticks to his usual schedule). Apart from that, he wants to play the DC tie if possible and that will be played on (indoor) hard court, as well.

Of course I would like some confirmation. But we don't know what's going on behind the scenes, what deals may have been made. So for now, I'm going to trust David's statement that his schedule is "safe".

(Anna, I can delete that double post if you want. :)

Anna said...

Yes, please delete it!!

As I said, I don't know what to think. I don't remember reading anything about his schedule plan after Acapulco (and the DC tie). I don't think he can skip those two MS (and I don't want to, I want to see him play) but also, for him it'd be changing surfaces for two tournaments (not matter that one is called the 5th Slam). Don't know and I have no idea how his abdominal problem affected his plans in terms of schedule planning.
Silmakar posted at Tamar's forum that today in AMerica 24 at 20:30hs in a show called Deportivo 24 there will be an interview with him. Maybe there, we can have some answers

Julia said...

Done. :)

Well, it says that he'll play both events on his official site. And I seem to remember that he mentioned IW in one of his interviews. But maybe that's wishful thinking... Looks like we'll have to wait to find out.

But yeah, maybe he'll talk about it in that interview tonight. I won't be able to watch it. So I hope you'll tell us what he said and if there was anything about his schedule.
