A Brief Update

All is quiet "on the David front" at the moment. Except for a news item over on the official site, according to which David will, after two days of complete rest, begin his preparation for Indian Wells.

In other words, after maybe resting over the weekend, today could see David back to work again, first doing physiotherapy and kinesiological exercises for ten days and then resuming his training.

As for Indian Wells, none of the five wildcards for the event has been announced so far. I'll keep an eye on this. Though David seems to have a deal with the organisers.

Meanwhile, reaching the quarterfinal of the Copa Telmex means 45 ranking points for David. But as he had 90 to defend from last year, he has effectively lost 45 points and gone down another 19 places in the rankings to #159.
At Indian Wells, he'll have another 90 points to defend. (Photo: Copa Telmex/Sergio Llamera)

Here's a slideshow video with off-court pics that Noubar has made...

And here's a "best of" video with return winners from David, also by Noubar...

Thanks for the update, Julia.

At least David won't have points to defend for much longer. By then hopefully he'll really be getting into his stride. :-)

The points he has are from IW and Godo, I think. After that, nothing.
I hope he has an accesible draw at IW. I know the WC are not announced yet, but I think a former ATP 3,a MC and MS champion and the player who has the best records against the top 5, a WC (when they have 5 and the entry list is bigger than others MS1000) is almost sure. Still the "almost" is the key thing here. Because after what the people of the Madrid MS did to Ferrero (when they denied a WC for a former N°1, RG champion and spanish player) I'm not taking it for granted until I see David's name there.

I forgot, great video!

He has 90 points to defend from IW, 10 from Miami, 90 from Monte Carlo and finally another 90 from Barcelona. So chances are that he will lose more ground in the rankings before starting to recover some.

Nice video, Noubar. :) I just added it to last post. You've used clips from some great matches there. Made me want to watch some of them again, especially the one against Federer at Paris...

Tamar, yeah, I guess I'm not the only one who's looking forward to seeing your photos. :)

We should almost start just adding the ranking points from scratch in our own minds since by early May he will be standing on his own results from 2010. So it is good he got to the QFs of the Copa Telmex for starters, and the fact hs is 2-0 in competitive tennis this year proving the exhos had some merit.

Also, every time he has come back, he has looked fitter and fitter and tended to be on fire instead of rusty when he first plays a match (see San Juan exho in December with easy wins over Massu and Gaudo and Copa Argentina with easy win over Moya; win over Starace in straight sets in Copa Telmex). So it appears to me is perfectly capable of being hot in a first and second round match in Indian Wells.

Also, I thought this might be of interest. Albert Montanes was scheduled to be David's QF opponent in the Copa Telmes, and he is a top 30 player. Yesterday, Montanes played Gimeno-Traver, the top 80 player that David played that grueling 2nd round match at the Copa Telmex that led to the tear in his thigh and withdrawal from the QF.

I was interested to see the results between the player he barely vanquished while playing injured and his upcoming opponent. Montanes won a tough match against Gimeno-Traver 7-5, 4-6, 6-2 in the first round of the Abierto Mexicano Telcel yesterday. Meanwhile, Ferrer handled Starace prettily easily 6-2, 6-4.

Noubar, love the backhand winners vid! Thanks again!
