David appeared on the TyC Sports show "Gol de Medianoche" on Tuesday, July 28th (thanks, Tamar). And this time, there's a video clip of David on the show (thanks, tennisace).
The problem is that there's a constant beeping noise on the audio track of that clip, which makes it really difficult to understand anything. I had a look at the original clip on the TyC Sports website but the audio on that one isn't any better. At least, there are two articles about the interview, both containing quotes (one from TyC Sports, the other from La Voz), shedding some light on what David was saying. Once more, he mostly spoke about the Davis Cup.
Here's my attempt at combining both articles and their quotes:
David Nalbandian said that for those players whose priority is their obligations on the international circuit "it is better not to play Davis Cup".As for what he said in the interview apart from the quotes above (which are in the clip), I hope that Tamar will make another transcript... :)
"For most players it's more about hard work than something they enjoy," said Nalbandian, while noting that the Davis Cup is not only demanding because of its schedule. "It's damaging, the constant change of surface and those moments moments of the year when it [Davis Cup] takes place."
Regarding the failure of Argentina in terms of [having a fixed] doubles, Nalbandian said that "it's possible to win, not having a strong and fixed doubles". However, he recalled some situations that happened to him and admitted that "for those who have to play on all three days of the tie it's very tough".
About what it means for him to play Davis Cup he remarked that "if you represent the country, everything is different. From being a young boy on, you play for yourself, to make a name for yourself, and you play for your coaches and team. But playing Davis Cup, you're committed to defending the flag."
The Davis Cup final loss to Spain is still present in Nalbandian's memory and it seems impossible to forget about it. "The wound will never close. It hurts even more than the final in Russia [2006]. It's difficult to assimilate and to look ahead, but those are the results and there are no others," he concluded.
About his physical state and the recent operation on his hip, Nalbandian said with some trepidation that "nobody can assure you of anything, because it is a new and delicate injury."
"I know that when I return, I will step on the court being afraid until I can get all of that out of my head."

Hmm, another interview about Davis Cup. I must say I'm getting pretty bored of the topic.
That bleeping noise sure is annoying but the clip is still good for seeing David's animated facial expressions. There is indeed still a grumpy edge there.
Hi Julia, hi everybody!
Julia: the exact day of the interview was July 28th at midnight (thats to say July 28th at 11.59pm).
I will try to transcribe this interview too, but I can't promise I will do it because I have to study... (If I do the transcription, I can't realy promise for when it will be ready).
The interview was really too insteresting, David was too relaxed!
Tamar, a transcript would be very nice, of course.
I'm guessing he didn't just talk about Davis Cup? Well, I hope you'll find the time. :)
It's a bit of a worry if he is STILL going on about other players' priorities in relation to the Davis Cup.
It is. On the other hand, all the journalists keep asking him about it. And this is apparently only a small part of the whole interview.
What I find a bit worrying is how heavy he looks. Like he has been having a couple too many asados, lately...
Yes, that is worrying me too. I'd noticed in some of the interviews how they mentioned things like salads and mineral water... well, my memory may not be accurate, but I had the impression that there were a few subtle references to healthy eating and drinking. But then the barbecues get a mention too. That could be bad.
Whoever is advising David on his diet during his rehabilitation may need to advise a bit harder!
I've noticed that too Julia, when the photos came out, I thought he lost a little weight, but when I saw the video I was surprised. He really needs to do something about that before coming back.
And you are right Istabrag, his doctors should pay attention to his weight too. I mean extra weight can make things worse when you are injured!
hey, i think we must think that actually David can't do hard exercises, just some things in the gym. He had been only in the gym for about 3 months or more! a lot of people (not only in this blog) mention that he was out of weight (that he was fat) but really, i think we must think that he is a person who is used to play tennis 3hours or more per day... think that, if any of us is used to that and from one day to the other you can't move and besides you eat the same things... i think it's normal this situation. And, i must say something that maybe will sound funny :) i think that in the interview he has just shaved and because of that his face is more pompous, more blowed up... (in spanish: "me parece que cuando se hizo la entrevista estaba recién afeitado, y tenia la cara un poco hinchada por eso." It is okay how I said that in english?).
So, I think we don't have to be alarmed... I'm sure that when he starts training hard again we will have the same David Nalbandian we all want :)
(Julia or any of you... please, tell me if you could understand what I tried to say... because i don't know if I was clear enough...).
Tamar, that's true. He can't train anywhere near as much as usual. But that also means he should adjust his diet, accordingly. And not go on, eating the same things as if he was on a normal training schedule.
I guess it's just that he looks much heavier in that clip than he did in the latest photos. Both his face and the rest of him.
Actually, I'd agree with you that if he has a beard it usually makes his face look a bit more narrow. (The English word you were looking for, describing his face in the interview is "bloated". And yeah, that is what it looks like.) But I don't think it's just his face... Maybe it's also that sweater he's wearing. ;)
Anyway. Yeah, your post was very clear. No problem understanding it. No need to worry. :)
Don't worry Tamar, you were clear :) Maybe I'm over-reacting but I still agree with Julia about adjusting his diet. You can imagine how much effort and time it takes to lose the extra weight. So can you see my point, why wait till you add all the extra weight and then struggle to lose it, cuz trust me it's not easy esp. if you are a person who enjoys food.
Having said that, you might be right, we shouldn't panic. He's an athlete and I hope he knows what's he doing ;)
Hello, all.
I wish people would stop focusing so much on his weight...it's as if people take it personally or something and use that as a reason to dislike him (not that I'm referring to present company, of course). On another note, I don't like that sweater! He could have chosen a more flattering color.
I agree, the colour of that sweater doesn't flatter David. But I don't think it can be that or even the close shave that is making his face look fuller. It does seem strange that he looked so much slimmer in those recent photos.
I understand what Tiffany is saying about people using his weight as an excuse to be rude about him, but I think for most of us it is a genuine concern. Carrying excess weight puts pressure on all your joints, and for someone with an joint injury in the process of repairing, surely it's a priority not to let this happen. David must know that he can't afford to eat the same as when he is in full training. I just hope he is taking that seriously.
Sorry if that is repeating what Julia and Camilia have already said - I'm really just agreeing. I think it would be disastrous if David thought he could put on extra weight and then work on losing it when he is training harder. Not only because it's difficult to do, but also because it could do some damage in the meantime.
But anyway - yes, David must be aware of all this, better than any of us. And maybe those TV cameras weren't helping. Orange sweater, close shave, TV camerawork and lighting... let's hope for some more photos soon showing him looking fit and svelte! :-)
Well, they say that television puts at least 10 lbs. on a person, and it certainly does not help that he has on bright clothes on top of that. Along with the eating habits and the training, I certainly hope he gets some fashion tips as well. Baggy clothes also makes a person look a lot heavier than usual.
Personally, I think he looks better in blue.
I've just realised the flaw in our 'tv adding weight' argument... we see him on tv all the time!
(Maybe it's the studio lighting.)
There's a new interview to David, published today (Wednesday) in "El Cronista":
http://www.cronista.com/notas/198648-perder-la-final-la-copa-davis-fue-el-momento-mas-doloroso-mi-carrera
Fat Dave has never been thin...it's a part of his charm...he was not thin at all when he won Sydney...and he played some great tennis so it's more a question of health than "look"..
I saw him at Bercy in double with Arnold Kerr on a small court so I was close to him and I thought he looked thinner than on pictures. He looks fat on video but maybe the colour of his clothes was not flattering ??? Anyway I love him as he is and his weight is his own problem and Diego can help him maybe ???
Of course his weight is his own problem. But every extra kilo means additional strain on his hip joint. I guess that's what I and some of the others here are concerned about. And it won't make taking up proper training again any easier.
In general, I think his weight has been changing over the years. Back and forth between comparatively lighter and heavier. And usually heavier after the off-season... So it was to be expected that he'd gain some weight now, being home for a longer period of time and not training as much as he's used to.
Well, maybe it's not quite as bad as it looks in that clip. At least, that's what I hope.
