David on the Mend, no Operation - for now

(Reuters Pictures)

Good news from Barcelona: according to infobae.com and the Cordoba-based newspaper El Mañana, David's hip injury is finally getting better and there won't be an operation. - At least not at this point. However, it cannot be ruled out that David might still have to have surgery if the injury does persist. But for the moment, David is "very relaxed and recovering, doing treatment" as his spokesman Bernardo Ballero told El Mañana.

According to the articles mentioned above, it has already been "confirmed" that David will play next week's tournament at Estoril in order to determine whether the current treatment is indeed effective enough to render an operation unnecessary.
Let's hope it is...

Update
A new article on the website of the newspaper El Cronista quotes Dr. Ruiz-Cotorro. "The idea is to play Estoril. And if that doesn't work out then he'll play Madrid, the week after that. "
He describes David's injury as "serious, but there's a possible solution".
The article also contains another quote from Bernardo Ballero. "I spoke to David and he told me that his injury is getting better. He'll stay in Barcelona until Friday, working on his recovery, and then he'll travel to Estoril."

Slightly better news but still a worry. Hopefully he'll be OK in Estoril and the injury can be contained without surgery. Thanks for the update :)

That's a relief to hear. Thanks again, Julia, for the detailed and extensive coverage of this worrying development.

Thanks. And again - de nada. :)

I think this is about as good as we could realistically hope for the news to be. At the same time, this could also be David not wanting to miss the DC tie. No matter what. Those articles I took the quotes from also hinted at it, the DC tie (and the still existing chance to make up for last year's final) probably being the main reason David doesn't want an operation and the subsequent pause.

Anyway, I'm basically still trying to come to terms with knowing now that this injury has been troubling him for a full year. Apart from having to probably reassess some of the matches he played during this time, it's also clear now that in his interviews, he doesn't divulge anything about what's really going on with him. And what about last summer, when he was supposed to have hernia. Was that the hip injury all along? Was it not diagnosed correctly? Or was hernia the "official version"?
I only recently criticized the amount of info David's willing to give in his interviews. But this is worse than I could've imagined.

It doesn't puzzle me too much. Medical information is or should be, to some extent, private. Sure, it's good to reveal some details in a case like this where the player withdraws from a tournament. But maybe David had both problems to some extent, the hernia and the hip. Maybe even other niggling things. One or other problem comes to the fore in different circumstances.

I just accept to know what we're being allowed to know.

And if DC is David's big dream then it makes sense that he makes decisions on the basis of that. It's all fine with me.

Good news for the moment...hope it's not too painful for David, he's got a lot of courage sometimes. See what he'll do in Estoril

The day before yesterday David's girlfriend,Victoria spoke about Nalbi's future on some argentine websites.
Example for this:
diariopanorama.com

Thanks for the hint.
She basically just says that she hopes he can make the best out of the the remaining years of his career. (Though he's of course not 30 like that article claims...) And that she hopes that after ten years of being together, David will propose in a "romantic way". - Good luck with that. :)

Hello, everyone. Read the article and the comments. Everything, for now anyway, seems up in the air. We could get something totally different tomorrow, if we were to judge what was said today. Anyway, I would have loved to read Victoria's comments, but the link provided was not accessible, and I can't find the comments themselves just using the dot-com site. If you have a link, please provide. Also, Julia: I don't think the article said David was 30; it could have said Victoria was, since she is older than David. As you know, sometimes the translated articles don't get the pronoun reference exactly.

Hello Tiffany, great to see your input here. :)

Here it is. See for yourself.

Vic is 30 years old.
This is laughy. I think that ridiculous,Vicky proposed to David.
I think he cannot to climb out from this. A relative of mine, is a pro tennis player /sorry,I can't tell you who is she or he/. But she/he said that David is always watching the girls steadily.
And I heard it about David's life of that place -tournaments-.
So this is not clear for him.
And his girlfriend is not going a lot of tours. She was at 1-2 times last year, but she like a wedding?
And she said that she is helping David's carieer in the future?
Dave, please choose an another and NICE girl, please!
Who is love you!

I'm Europian and bought tickets for RG about you.
I will travel to Paris and like to see you again.
Thanks own of this site for a lot of information.

Arizona,
Thanks for the welcome.

Julia,
Thanks for the link.

Jolcsi,
I think you're blowing this article way out of proportion. What you claim Vicky said is not what happened at all. And I gather that you have not been following David that long, as almost every fan of his knows that he's been with Vicky for a long time. With that said, her expectations are not that unrealistic.

Anyway, is there anything new regarding David's injury? I sincerely hope the surgery thing does not come about, and that he shows up to play at Estoril and all the other tourneys he's committed to.

David try to play in Estoril. If his hip not will be OK there he would be an operation.

Hello again...about Victoria the "so called" David's girlfriend,
I went to Rg in 2004 and I saw Sofia Zolotos (David's girlfriend in 2004) in David's box...TV often showed her...IN 2006 in was with an actress (I don't remember her name) and last year He went out with nude model Victoria Vanucci...And so on..David is not the man of a single woman at moment so maybe Vic knew David when he was 16 but he had a lot of different girlfriends during the past 10 years...So I don't know why
does Vic imagine David will marry her ??? Maybe one day but he must chose one woman before and ne faithful ti her...
