ATP Statistics: David’s First Semester
It is known that tennis is a sport of percentages. Being midyear and having played 31 matches in the circuit, David’s performances in the first half of the year have been regular, despite his injuries. He won a title (ATP Buenos Aires); he reached the finals in the Acapulco ATP, the semifinals in the traditional tournament of Queen’s, and quarter-finals in two Masters Series: Indian Wells and Monte Carlo. Where he could not stand firmly was in the Grand Slam, Australia (third round), Roland Garros (second) and Wimbledon (First). If his performances had been better there, he could be holding a better position in the ranking. As regards his percentages in the game, his performance was better when returning than when serving. Nalbandian, seventh in the world, is among the 48 players with best service. He is 51st as regards aces (142 in 31 matches); 40th in points won with second services (51%); 50th in percentages with first services (58%). The best part in regard to service is his position as 36th in points won in the first service (71%). The situation improves -a lot- with return shots. He is 9th in converted break points (46%) and 11th in points won when returning the first service! His return shots continue being, by far, his most beneficial aspect.

Also from David's site, it seems he has changed his original busy schedule and will now next play in Beijing, thus skipping the next two Masters Series tournaments. This is probably a good idea given his physical problems of late.
Enjoy a well earned rest, David!
